TWO ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITIONS

BUTLER UNIVERSITY – COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

Indianapolis, Indiana

Butler University’s College of Education is seeking applications for two assistant professor positions: one in Educational Foundations (focusing on child development, an introduction to educating children with special needs, and the integration of technology into effective instruction) and one in Early Childhood Education (focusing on a wide variety of early childhood approaches, but within an elementary education program).  Candidates should have an earned doctorate, or be ABD with evidence of completion by start date.  Candidates should have a minimum of three years of classroom experience in K-12 settings, evidence of technological skills for the 21st century, evidence of collaboration, a site-based perspective, a commitment to problem solving in an educational setting, and academic experiences and interests in culturally diverse groups.  The candidate would help the College of Education meet the challenge incorporated in its vision statement, “to prepare our students for schools as they should be, not simply perpetuating schools as they currently exist.”

Candidates’ responsibilities would include mainly teaching undergraduate courses in their designated area of specialization (early childhood or foundations), but also possibly other courses in the college, both undergraduate and graduate, and courses within the University Core Curriculum.  Candidates would also be expected to advise students, engage in scholarly activities, participate in continued program development, and provide service to the university and greater educational community.  Summer school teaching is optional.

Additional information about the College of Education, and each of the two programs, may be found on the College of Education Web Page at www.butler.edu. (Butler University is an EEO/AA employer and educator and specifically encourages applications from persons of color.)

Interview preferences will be given to those whose applications are submitted by December 1, 2009.  Applications will continue to be accepted until the positions are filled. The positions begin fall semester of 2010.

Application Process:  Applicants must submit a letter of application detailing basic and preferred areas of qualification, current vitae, names and phone numbers of three professional references, and official graduate transcripts to:
