We seek an accomplished academic leader to head the Department of Master’s Studies for Teacher Leaders in our newly instituted School of Educational Leadership (SoEL).

 

IWU’s education unit is NCATE accredited, and the Department of Master’s Studies for Teacher Leaders is comprised of 12-member full time faculty with over 100 adjunct instructors. The department enrolls the largest number of graduate students in the SoEL, serving nearly 1,000 candidates enrolled in cohorts that convene 100% online or at one of two dozen field locations - including 14 regional campuses - in Indiana or a neighboring state.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to and working collaboratively with the division chair of Advanced Studies for Teacher Leaders, the director will manage all departmental activities related to faculty development, curriculum oversight, and student care. As a member of the SoEL administrative council, the director will be expected to advance the new School’s culture of self-study, continuous improvement and programming innovation that is responsive to the professional interests of P-12 educators. The director’s office is based at the SoEL facility located on IWU’s College of Adult and Professional Studies campus approximately 60 miles northeast of Indianapolis in Marion, Indiana. This position is a 12-month administrative faculty assignment and the successful candidate will be appointed as soon as the search process is concluded.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The director will be expected to:

·         Articulate and mobilize action plans in accordance with the university mission, college vision, and school goals for faculty and program development

·         Supervise the work of a 3-person support staff and administer a substantial department budget

·         Work collaboratively with the division chair to invest in the professional development of department faculty

·         Guide ongoing efforts by department faculty to evaluate the master’s program student experience and make use of assessment data to inform decisions about curricular refinements

·         Ensure that programs offered by the department comply with state and national standards for advanced studies, among them HLC, NCATE, numerous specialty professional associations, and state departments of education

·         Act in conjunction with the office of faculty recruitment to identify, evaluate, and recommend individuals as full time and adjunct faculty for assignment to master’s program courses

·         Network with leaders of public and non-public schools, universities, government agencies, and professional associations to act and advise from an informed perspective

·         Represent the department to varied campus and public constituencies and assist in the SoEL’s marketing efforts on behalf of department programs

·         Maintain a personal agenda for continuous learning and perform service to the university, teaching profession, and community

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Highly qualified applicants will demonstrate a strong commitment to teacher education grounded in a Christ-centered world view and possess the following attributes:

·         A servant leader’s heart in tune with IWU’s missional commitment to change the world by developing people in character, scholarship and leadership

·         An earned doctoral degree in a field of educational studies or relevant disciplines

·         A record of successful professional experience in K-12 public schools, ideally including experience working with developmentally and culturally diverse populations

·         A professional dossier that exemplifies the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of an accomplished teacher leader

·         A facile awareness of higher education academic and administrative processes

·         Collegiate level teaching experience, ideally in both online and on-site instructional venues

·         A capacity to conceptualize and implement new program offerings that are meaningful to adults who teach and learn in the digital age

·         A working knowledge of higher education accreditation requirements, especially those related to NCATE standards for advanced programs

·         A solid track record as a collaborative leader possessing effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and a strong interest in building cooperative relationships

·         A thorough understanding of the research and policy arena related to the education and licensure of teachers
