University of Texas Pan American (UTPA) is
in Edinburg, Texas, a city of approximately 50,000 people and one of
the many cities located in the beautiful Rio Grande Valley in South Texas.
Specifically, Edinburg
is located on the southern tip of Texas in a
semitropical climate 230 miles south of San
Antonio, approximately 70 miles west of South Padre Island
and about 15 miles north of the Texas-Mexico border. UTPA is part of University
of Texas System
and has a student body of over 17,000 that is approximately 87% Hispanic. The College
of Education
offers both undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctoral program. Science
Education - Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) The University of Texas-Pan American invites
applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in science
education to teach in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction
beginning Fall 2010. Job responsibilities include (1) teaching pedagogical-content
knowledge science/mathematics methods courses to undergraduate preservice and graduate inservice
teachers, teaching pedagogy and field-based pedagogy courses to secondary preservice teachers; (2) conducting original research; (3)
supervising student teachers; and (4) contributing service and leadership in
science education to the university, local schools, and the community. Required
Qualifications: Applicants should have (1) three years of teaching science
at the secondary level; (2) a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in
Science Education or a degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a
specialization area in Science Education; (3) demonstrated potential to
be a productive scholar; (4) commitment to working with linguistically and
culturally diverse populations; (6) current teaching certificate or license;
and (7) ability to use technology to support teaching and learning.
Preferred Qualifications: Higher education
teaching experience, research/grant activity, service (community, department,
