Bowling Green State
University (“BGSU”) is seeking a new Dean for the College of Education and
Human Development (“Dean”) to advance the mission and success of one of BGSU’s
largest Colleges and to partner with a committed and innovative senior
leadership team in building towards “a future without limits”.
The five schools comprising
the College are: 1) Leadership and Policy Studies (LPS), 2) Family and Consumer
Sciences (FCS), 3) Human Movement, Sport and Leisure Studies (HMSLS), 4)
Intervention Services (SIS), and 5) Teaching and Learning (STL). The one
department in the College is Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA). Accredited by NCATE and NCA, the College
provides one of the largest and most comprehensive educator preparation
programs in the country. It has nationally recognized graduate education
programs and an excellent record in funded research. The College’s graduates are recruited by
schools nationwide. The College has two
highly successful university research centers in evaluation research and
transformative education and enjoys a prominent reputation for preparing
students for a full range of professional careers. As one of BGSU’s key strategic initiatives, a
Center of Excellence for 21st Century Educator Preparation has been approved by
the university’s Board of Trustees and is under consideration as a state Center
of Excellence by the Governor and Ohio Board of Regents.
Located in northwestern Ohio,
BGSU is a major institution of higher learning, serving over 20,000 students on
two campuses. Established in 1910 to
educate teachers, BGSU is the 14th largest producer of teachers in the
country. This year, U.S. News &
World Report’s “America's Best Colleges” ranked BGSU 11th in the nation for its
strong commitment to teaching undergraduate students. Over 900 faculty and 1,400 staff members
support a rich academic and extracurricular life, where students can draw from
over 200 undergraduate majors, 17 doctoral programs, 61 masters degrees, and over
360 campus organizations. BGSU, as one
of Ohio’s four regional public liberal arts institutions, is a residential,
primarily traditional-age institution.

Reporting to the Senior Vice
President for Academic Affairs and Provost, the Dean will partner with an
outstanding leadership team and dedicated and collaborative faculty and
staff. The Dean will have the vision,
skill, and motivation to lead the College to the next level of innovation and
excellence. At a minimum qualified
candidates will possess an earned doctorate; credentials in teaching, scholarly
research/creative activity, and service meriting appointment with tenure at the
rank of full professor; at least three years in an academic leadership role in
a university setting; experience with NCATE and/or other accreditation; and a
record of successful development activity involving public and private sources.
