Secondary PE/Health Education Program - Department of Health Education, Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics (HPERA)

The University: Northeastern Illinois University is a state-supported institution located in the northwest section of Chicago. It is located eight miles from downtown Chicago and thirty minutes from O’Hare International Airport. The university enrolls 12,000 commuter students. Department: The Department of Health Education, Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics (HPERA) at Northeastern Illinois University offers the Bachelor of Arts in undergraduate Physical Education (K-12), Secondary Health Education (6-12), Health and Wellness, and a Master of Science in Exercise Science. The programs are accredited by the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education and the State of Illinois.

Required Qualifications: Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in K-12 PE with emphasis on Health Education. P-12 teaching experience and use of technology to enhance teaching, assessment, and research is also required.

Recommended Qualifications:  Experience in diverse settings, experience with professional accreditation (NCATE/AAHE/NASPE), and some experience in university teaching, advisement, and scholarly publication are desirable.  Professional certifications and community involvement will be considered by the search committee.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities will include teaching courses in PE and/or health education, supervision of student teachers, and other assigned courses as required by the department.  Other responsibilities include student advisement, research and service.
