The University: Northeastern Illinois University is a state supported institution located in the northwest section of Chicago. Department: The Department of Special Education at Northeastern Illinois University prepares reflective professionals who aim to transform the lives of individuals with exceptionality. It offers two initial certification programs, one at the undergraduate and one at the graduate level. It also offers a graduate program in gifted education, an approval in early childhood special education and an advanced graduate program for special educators who desire certification in the areas of behavior intervention specialist and/or curriculum adaptation specialist. Faculty teach at the Chicago and Lake County campuses.
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in special education or a related field and three years teaching experience are required. Expertise in instructional methodology across disabilities preferred. Additional expertise in early childhood special education, gifted and talented, moderate to severe disabilities expertise, and/or assistive technology will be considered. Use of technology to enhance teaching is required. Ability to coordinate programs a plus.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities include teaching in graduate and undergraduate level programs in special education at two campuses, advisement duties and ongoing collaboration on program improvements, research and university/community service activities. Additional coordination duties possible.
